Long Island human remains found in search for missing woman Kathleen Harrison Trent

The search for a missing Long Island grandmother has taken a tragic turn, as police have now launched a murder investigation after discovering a body in a wooded area. Kathleen Harrison Trent, 63, was reported missing by her son on January 29, after she was last seen at her home on Forge Road in Riverhead.

During a search on Wednesday, officers from the Suffolk County Police Department found the body of an adult female in a wooded area south of River Road in Manorville. While formal identification by the medical examiner is still pending, detectives have determined that the cause of death is “criminal in nature” and the Suffolk County Police Homicide Squad is leading the investigation.

Trent, a mother and grandmother, worked as a security guard at Riverhead Raceway. Friends described her as a kind-hearted and generous person, with one friend, Kelly Turbush, stating, “She didn’t have a bad bone in her body.” Another friend, Tanya Burriss, expressed devastation upon hearing the news of the discovery of a body, emphasizing Trent’s good character.

The community is shaken by the news of Trent’s disappearance and subsequent death, with many expressing their shock and sadness over the tragic turn of events.
