Los Angeles small business owner takes wait-and-see approach after Trump’s tariffs are struck down

Small Business Owners React to Supreme Court Decision on Tariffs

Many small business owners, like Melkon Khosrovian of Greenbar Distillery in Los Angeles, are cautiously optimistic following the Supreme Court’s rejection of President Donald Trump’s main tariffs. However, the impact of the tariffs on their bottom line has left them uncertain about the future.

Despite the hope for rebate checks, Khosrovian expressed skepticism, stating, “We’re not that confident we’re going to either get the money back or not have to pay a similar amount of tariffs going forward.”

Last year, tariffs impacted the price of essential items for the spiritmaker, including glass bottles from China, exotic spices from India, and coffee from Brazil. Despite a significant dent in profit margins, Khosrovian refrained from raising prices to offset the tariffs.

To mitigate future costs, Khosrovian invested $400,000 in equipment to automate tasks like bottling, with plans to reduce staff by three employees. However, the uncertainty following the Supreme Court’s ruling has left him questioning the future of his business.
