The Director Lineup for Peacock’s Crime Drama Series “Superfakes” Announced
The highly anticipated Peacock crime drama series “Superfakes” has officially announced its director lineup. According to Variety, Jim McKay, Karena Evans, and Andrij Parekh have been tapped to direct the upcoming show, which was greenlit by the NBCU streamer in January 2025. Evans will take the helm for the pilot episode, while McKay will direct multiple episodes. Both directors will also serve as executive producers on the series.
Leading the cast of “Superfakes” is the talented Lucy Liu, joined by Ken Leung, Bohan Phoenix, Michelle Lee Jones, and Keith Leung. The show follows the story of a small-time Chinatown luxury counterfeit dealer, played by Liu, who delves into a dangerous black-market underworld to secure a life of suburban respectability for her family.
Jim McKay, known for his work on popular series like “Tulsa King,” “Smoke,” and “Black Bird,” will bring his wealth of experience to “Superfakes.” Karena Evans, who has directed episodes of shows like “P-Valley” and the HBO Max reboot of “Gossip Girl,” will lend her creative vision to the pilot episode. Andrij Parekh, an Emmy-winning director for “Succession,” will also contribute his expertise to the series, having worked on acclaimed shows like “Watchmen” and “House of the Dragon.”
The talented trio of directors is represented by top agencies in the industry, with McKay repped by Verve, Evans by CAA and Taj Critchlow/Karoshi Management & Granderson Des Rochers, and Parekh by Linden Entertainment and Murtha Skouras Agency.
“Superfakes” is created by Alice Ju, who will serve as the writer, executive producer, and showrunner of the series. Executive producers include Josh Safdie, Benny Safdie, Howard Klein, Olivia Gerke, Ronald Bronstein, Eli Bush, Lucy Liu, Jim McKay, and Karena Evans. The show will be produced by A24 and UCP, promising an exciting and captivating viewing experience for audiences.
