Ludwig Göransson and EJAE Win at SCL Awards
The 7th annual Society of Composers and Lyricists awards ceremony was a night to remember, with standout winners including composer Ludwig Göransson and singer/songwriter EJAE. Göransson took home two SCL Awards for his work on the score of “Sinners” and the original song “I Lied to You,” which he co-wrote with Raphael Saadiq. EJAE and Mark Sonnenblick also received recognition for their outstanding original song “Golden” from the series “KPop Demon Hunters.”
In the independent film category, composer Bryce Dessner was honored with the outstanding original score award for his work on “Train Dreams.” Göransson and “Sinners” director Ryan Coogler were presented with the Spirit of Collaboration Award for their exceptional teamwork.
On the television side, composer Theodore Shapiro won the outstanding score for a television production for “Severance,” while Cristóbal Tapia de Veer took home the award for original title sequence for a television production with “The White Lotus.”
The evening also included a special tribute to the 50th Anniversary of “Rocky,” featuring a musical performance conducted by Academy Award-winning composer Bill Conti. Melissa Manchester performed during the In Memoriam segment, singing “I’ll Never Say Goodbye,” a song from the 1979 film “The Promise.”
Hosted by Kevin Bacon and Emmy-winning composer Michael Bacon, the awards ceremony took place at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles. The event celebrated the talent and creativity of the music industry, showcasing the best in original scores and songs.
The full list of 2025 SCL Awards winners includes Ludwig Göransson for Outstanding Original Score for a Studio Film with “Sinners,” Bryce Dessner for Outstanding Original Score for an Independent Film with “Train Dreams,” and EJAE and Mark Sonnenblick for Outstanding Original Song for a Comedy or Musical Visual Media Production with “Golden” from “KPop Demon Hunters.”
Other winners included Cristóbal Tapia de Veer for Outstanding Original Title Sequence for a Television Production with “The White Lotus,” Theodore Shapiro for Outstanding Original Score for a Television Production with “Severance,” and Austin Wintory for Outstanding Original Score for Interactive Media with “Sword Of The Sea.” Chin-shan Chang was also recognized with the David Raksin Award for Emerging Talent for his work on “Laws Of Man.”
Overall, the 7th annual SCL Awards highlighted the incredible talent and innovation within the music industry, honoring the creative achievements of composers and songwriters across various mediums. It was a night of celebration and recognition for the outstanding work being done in the world of music composition and lyricism.
