Major winter storm moving, bringing strong wind gusts, snow to Plains and Northeast
Millions of people in the High Plains are bracing for severe weather conditions as widespread wind gusts between 60 and 80 mph are expected from Montana to Kansas. This powerful wind is forecasted to last throughout the day and into the evening, posing significant risks to the region.
The strong winds have the potential to uproot large trees, cause power outages, reduce visibility due to blowing dust, and create hazardous travel conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles that could be easily overturned. The impact of this weather phenomenon is expected to be felt across a wide area, affecting both urban and rural communities.
On the eastern side of the strongest winds, blowing snow is also anticipated, either picking up snow that has already fallen or bringing new snow from an incoming storm. A winter weather advisory has been issued from North Dakota to Iowa for gusts between 40 and 50 mph, with snow accumulations of up to one inch.
In Wisconsin and Michigan, light snow is predicted to fall, extending into Michigan and Ohio by Friday afternoon. As the day progresses, snow is expected to move from West Virginia and Ohio to western Pennsylvania and western New York, with the potential for snowfall across much of the Northeast on Saturday.
The I-95 corridor, from Washington, D.C., to Maine, may experience snowfall on Saturday morning and early afternoon, possibly mixed with rain. Washington, D.C., could see a dusting of snow, while Philadelphia may receive up to an inch, and New York City and Boston could see up to 2 inches of accumulation.
Farther inland, areas in upstate New York, western Connecticut, western Massachusetts, and parts north of I-90 could see snow accumulations ranging from 3 to 6 inches. The snow is expected to taper off by late Saturday afternoon, bringing an end to the wintry weather conditions in the region.
Overall, residents in the High Plains and Northeast regions are urged to stay informed about weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of inclement weather. It is essential to monitor local weather advisories and make appropriate arrangements to minimize the impact of the impending severe conditions.
