Mamdani still won’t say Israel has a right to exist — sparking quick backlash from Cuomo at debate

Andrew Cuomo Challenges Zohran Mamdani’s Stance on Israel

During a recent Democratic mayoral primary debate, Zohran Mamdani faced scrutiny from Andrew Cuomo regarding his views on Israel’s right to exist as a Jewish state.

When asked directly if he believes Israel has a right to exist as a Jewish state, Mamdani responded, “I believe Israel has a right to exist.” However, when pressed further by the moderator if he believed in Israel as a Jewish state, Mamdani hesitated and replied, “As a state with equal rights.”

Cuomo and Whitney Tilson interjected, with Cuomo highlighting Mamdani’s reluctance to affirm Israel’s status as a Jewish state. He also referenced Mamdani’s previous statement where he mentioned he would not visit Israel.

“Unlike you, I answer questions very directly,” Mamdani shot back at Cuomo. “I want to be very clear that I believe every state should be a state of equal rights.”
