Man accused of ramming car into Liverpool soccer parade faces a further 24 charges
LONDON — The individual accused of driving his vehicle into a crowd of Liverpool soccer supporters in May while they were commemorating their Premier League victory is now facing an additional 24 charges. Shockingly, two of the charges pertain to infants who were among the victims.
Paul Doyle, aged 53, was visibly emotional as he appeared in court via video link from prison for the hearing at Liverpool Crown Court.
During the proceedings, he was informed of the additional charges, mostly for assault. Disturbingly, six of the new charges involve minors, including two babies aged just 6 and 7 months at the time of the incident.
Initially facing seven charges following the tragic occurrence in the city center on May 26, Doyle is now expected to enter his pleas on September 4.
The incident took place as fans were jubilantly celebrating Liverpool’s historic 20th title win. What should have been a joyous occasion quickly turned into a nightmare when Doyle allegedly plowed through the crowd. It is believed that he bypassed a roadblock by tailing an ambulance.
Shocking footage captured the car striking an individual draped in a red Liverpool flag before careening into the crowd. The aftermath saw several individuals, including a child, trapped beneath the vehicle.
The victims ranged in age from 9 to 78, as confirmed by the authorities. Despite the chaos and devastation, terrorism was ruled out as a motive by Merseyside Police, who have yet to disclose a reason for the heinous act.
