Man dead, suspect also shot during smoke shop brawl

A tragic incident unfolded at City Smoke, a South Side smoke shop, on Friday afternoon resulting in a fatal shooting. The victim, a 42-year-old man, was engaged in an argument with two individuals when the situation took a deadly turn. A 38-year-old man pulled out a gun and fired multiple shots at the victim, striking him in the chest, head, and back, as reported by Chicago police.

Although both suspects fled the scene before authorities arrived, the gunman was later located in the 7100 block of South Bell after a “person shot” call was made. Surprisingly, the 38-year-old suspect was found with a gunshot wound to his left hand, raising questions about who had shot him. Surveillance footage confirmed his involvement in the shooting, providing crucial evidence for investigators.

In the chaos that ensued, the second offender managed to escape, fleeing west on 71st Street. Descriptions provided by an officer who reviewed the store’s surveillance video indicated that the suspect had braids and was wearing an olive green or camouflage hoodie with blue jeans.

The swift actions of law enforcement led to the apprehension of the injured suspect, who is now in custody. However, his possible accomplice remains at large, prompting a continued search by authorities to bring him to justice. The investigation into the motive behind the shooting and the identity of the second suspect is ongoing.
