Man fatally shot, innocent woman wounded near Fordham U.

The tragic incident near Fordham University on Sunday has left the community reeling after a 57-year-old man, Kevin Jennings, was fatally shot in the head. The shooting also resulted in a 34-year-old woman being wounded in the leg. The violence erupted at East 188th Street and Marion Avenue in Fordham Heights, just blocks away from the university.
Authorities are still investigating whether Jennings was targeted or simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. The woman who was injured was an innocent bystander caught in the crossfire. Both victims were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital, where Jennings sadly succumbed to his injuries, while the woman is currently in stable condition.
The gunman, described as wearing a black t-shirt and red pants, fled the scene before authorities arrived. This incident is just one of several recent shootings in New York City that have claimed the lives of innocent bystanders. In late April, Harlem bodega owner Excenia Mette was fatally shot outside her store, followed by the killing of plumber’s apprentice Daoud Marji in The Bronx.
Just last week, 16-year-old Evette Jeffrey was tragically killed by a stray bullet in a Bronx school yard during a feud between rival gangs. Two teens have been taken into custody in connection with this shooting, including a 14-year-old alleged shooter and a 13-year-old boy accused of supplying the gun.
The motives behind these acts of violence remain unclear, leaving the community on edge and authorities working diligently to bring those responsible to justice. The senseless loss of life in these incidents serves as a stark reminder of the need for increased efforts to address gun violence and ensure the safety of all residents in the city.
