Gunman Opens Fire in Bronx, Killing One and Injuring Innocent Bystander
A tragic incident unfolded in the Bronx on Wednesday evening when a 28-year-old man, Marji Daoud, was shot dead by a gunman who opened fire into a crowd on University Avenue near West Kingsbridge Road. The shooting also resulted in the injury of a 33-year-old woman who was an innocent bystander.
Daoud, a resident of Yonkers, was found with a gunshot wound to the head and was rushed to Saint Barnabas Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The female victim, who was shot in the left hip, managed to transport herself to Woodhull Hospital and is currently in stable condition.
According to reports, the woman was not the intended target of the shooting, highlighting the alarming trend of innocent bystanders becoming victims of gun violence in the city.
It remains unclear whether Daoud was specifically targeted by the gunman or if he was also an unintended victim. The suspect, who is still at large, reportedly fired into the crowd without a clear target identified by authorities.
As of early Thursday, no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting, and the investigation is ongoing.
Recent Spike in Gun Violence in New York City
This tragic incident comes on the heels of another deadly shooting in the city that claimed the life of Excenia Mette, a beloved grandmother and pioneering businesswoman in Harlem. Mette, 61, was fatally shot in the head as she was caught in the crossfire of a gun battle between two men on Tuesday night.
Mette, a trailblazer in her community, had opened the first black- and woman-owned bodega in the 1980s but was forced to close her business during the pandemic. Her untimely death has left a void in the Harlem community where she was a pillar of strength and inspiration.
