Maniac pushes woman onto NYC subway tracks, punches another straphanger in face
Maniac Shoves Woman Onto Subway Tracks and Assaults Another in Brooklyn
In a shocking incident in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, a maniac pushed a woman onto the subway tracks and punched another lady in the face on Saturday. The disturbing events unfolded at the R subway line at 53rd Street and Fourth Avenue around 8:45 a.m., as reported by the police.
Both victims, a 51-year-old who was shoved and a 43-year-old who was punched, suffered facial injuries along with pain to their legs and back. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene, took the women out of the subway, and transported them to a hospital in stable condition.
The assailant, a 25-year-old person of interest, was later apprehended at a nearby shelter. This incident adds to the rising trend of major crime in the city’s transit system, with a 17% increase recorded so far this year compared to the same period last year. Assaults have gone up by 9%, from 65 incidents at this time last year to 71 in 2026.
Furthermore, robberies in the subway have surged by 58% this year, escalating from 38 cases in the same timeframe in 2025 to 60 incidents. The escalating violence in the transit system is a cause for concern, with the first subway murder of the year occurring recently when a man was shot to death inside a Bronx subway station.
Despite the alarming rise in subway crimes, overall citywide crime is down by 8% this year compared to the same period in 2025, according to NYPD data. The authorities are working diligently to address these concerning trends and ensure the safety of commuters in the city’s public transportation system.
