Martin Kove Allegedly Assaults ‘Cobra Kai’ Co-Star Alicia Hannah-Kim
Martin Kove, known for his role as John Kreese in the classic film “The Karate Kid” and the popular TV series “Cobra Kai,” made headlines over the weekend for an alleged incident at a fan convention. According to a report from the Puyallup Police Department obtained by Variety, Kove was asked to leave the event after allegedly biting his co-star Alicia Hannah-Kim during a VIP meet-and-greet.
The incident reportedly took place at Summer Con in Puyallup, Washington, where both Kove and Hannah-Kim were participating in fan activities. Hannah-Kim claimed that after tapping Kove on the shoulder to say hello, he unexpectedly grabbed her arm and bit her so hard that it nearly drew blood. She expressed her discomfort, but Kove allegedly proceeded to kiss the area where he had bitten her. Hannah-Kim then informed her husband, who was present at the event, and they confronted Kove about the incident.
Upon being confronted, Kove reportedly reacted defensively, accusing them of daring to confront him. The situation escalated, prompting Hannah-Kim and her husband to seek assistance from a police officer on site. Kove defended his actions by claiming that it was meant to be “funny” and that they often engaged in playful fights on the set of “Cobra Kai.” Despite Hannah-Kim choosing not to press charges, she requested that a report be filed in case similar behavior occurred in the future.
As a result of the incident, Kove was instructed to leave the venue, with the officer advising him to refrain from such behavior moving forward. The 78-year-old actor gained fame for his portrayal of the villainous Kreese in “The Karate Kid” and continued to embody the character in the subsequent film sequels and the long-running “Cobra Kai” series. On the other hand, Hannah-Kim, 37, joined the cast in later seasons as Kim Da-Eun, a formidable South Korean sensei.
The situation at Summer Con serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining professionalism and boundaries, even in casual settings. While Kove’s actions may have been intended as playful, it’s crucial to respect others’ personal space and boundaries at all times. Netflix, the platform behind “Cobra Kai,” and Kove’s representatives have yet to comment on the incident. As fans await further developments, the incident underscores the need for clear guidelines and respect in all interactions, whether on-screen or off.
