Martin Kove Apologizes For Biting ‘Cobra Kai’ Co-Star

Martin Kove, known for his role as John Kreese in the “Karate Kid” franchise and its spinoff series “Cobra Kai,” recently found himself in hot water after an incident at a fan convention. The actor issued a public apology to his co-star Alicia Hannah-Kim after allegedly biting her arm during the event.

In a statement obtained by Variety from Jaffe & Co. Crisis Management, Kove expressed deep regret for his actions and apologized to Hannah-Kim, describing her as a kind and talented individual who did not deserve to be put in such a position. He acknowledged that his behavior, though meant to be playful, crossed a line and was inexcusable. Kove took full responsibility for his actions and pledged to learn from the experience, vowing that it would never happen again.

According to a report from the Puyallup Police Department, Hannah-Kim accused Kove of assaulting her at the Summer Con event in Puyallup, Washington. She claimed that after tapping Kove on the shoulder to greet him, he unexpectedly grabbed her arm and bit her so hard that it nearly drew blood. Following her screams of pain, Kove allegedly proceeded to kiss the area where he had bitten her. Hannah-Kim alerted her husband, who was also present at the convention, and together they confronted Kove, who reacted defensively and aggressively towards them.

Hannah-Kim reported the incident to a police officer stationed in the VIP section of the event. Kove defended his actions as an attempt at humor, citing that they often engaged in playful fighting on the set of “Cobra Kai.” However, he was asked to leave the premises by the officer. Although Hannah-Kim chose not to press charges, she requested that a report be filed in case of any further incidents.

It is worth noting that Kove has portrayed the character of John Kreese, the main antagonist in the original “Karate Kid” film and its sequels, as well as in the “Cobra Kai” series. The actor’s on-screen persona as a tough and aggressive martial arts instructor seems to have blurred the lines between fiction and reality in this unfortunate event.
