Marvin Lee Mutch, who spent decades in prison for murdering girl, is arrested for child porn

A convicted murderer from California, Marvin Lee Mutch, has been arrested once again, this time for possession of child pornography. Mutch, who spent 40 years in prison for the murder of 13-year-old Cassie Riley, was released in 2016 and had been working as a director of advocacy for the Prisoner Reentry Network before his recent arrest.

The 68-year-old was taken into custody in Vallejo last Thursday and is facing charges of possession of child pornography, being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm, being a convicted felon in possession of ammunition, and possession of a controlled substance while armed. He is currently held on a $300,000 bail and is due in court for a hearing on Tuesday.

Mutch’s arrest came as a shock to many, as he has always maintained his innocence in the murder of Cassie Riley. The body of the young girl was discovered in 1974, beaten and held underwater until she died. Mutch was found guilty of her murder after a five-day trial and was sentenced to seven years in prison in 1975.

Despite his conviction, Mutch continued to claim his innocence throughout his 40-year incarceration at San Quentin Prison. He was eventually released in 2016, only to find himself back behind bars for a different crime years later.

The Prisoner Reentry Network, where Mutch was working as a director of advocacy, has come to his defense, claiming that he is facing “persecution” and has been accused of crimes he did not commit. They have started an online fundraiser to cover his legal costs, stating that Mutch has been a supporter of prisoners’ rights for the past 50 years.

However, the group’s defense of Mutch has sparked outrage among many, with comments expressing disbelief and disgust at the support for a convicted child murderer. The Prisoner Reentry Network has not yet responded to requests for comment on the matter.

As the investigation into Mutch’s latest arrest continues, additional charges may be forthcoming. Despite his past convictions and ongoing legal troubles, Mutch’s story remains a complex and controversial one that continues to unfold.
