Production on the highly anticipated Apple TV+ comedy series starring Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson has come to a temporary halt due to creative changes within the show. The series, currently titled “Brothers,” had completed filming eight out of its 10 episodes in Texas before the shutdown. This pause comes as David West Read, the show’s writer, showrunner, and executive producer, has departed from the project due to creative differences.
According to Variety, Lee Eisenberg is currently in discussions to take over as the new showrunner for the final episodes and any necessary reshoots. Eisenberg has previously collaborated with Apple on projects like “Little America” and has worked on shows such as “Lessons in Chemistry” and “WeCrashed.” His experience also includes the popular Amazon series “Jury Duty” and “The Office.”
“Brothers” was first announced in 2023 and is loosely based on the real-life friendship between McConaughey and Harrelson. The show’s official description reads, “Matthew and Woody’s friendship is tested when their combined families attempt to live together on Matthew’s ranch in Texas.”
In addition to McConaughey and Harrelson, the series features a talented ensemble cast including Holland Taylor, Natalie Martinez, Brittany Ishibashi, Oona Yaffe, Highdee Kuan, Nolan Almeida, Ella Grace Helton, and Noah Carganilla. Both McConaughey and Harrelson will also serve as executive producers on the show. The production team includes David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Matt Thunell of Skydance Television, Bill Bost, and Jeremy Plager. Jason Winer will direct multiple episodes and serve as an executive producer. Skydance TV is the studio behind the series.
The news of the production pause was first reported by Deadline. Fans of McConaughey and Harrelson will have to wait a bit longer for the release of “Brothers,” but with the addition of Eisenberg to the team, the show is sure to deliver an entertaining and memorable viewing experience.
