According to a statement from McDonald’s, the company will begin closing its standalone pilot CosMc’s locations in June and will also be discontinuing the CosMc’s app. The chain first opened its doors in Illinois in December 2023 with the goal of competing with coffee giants like Starbucks and Dunkin’ Donuts by offering unique and personalized drink options.
While the CosMc’s chain will be closing down, McDonald’s plans to incorporate some of the popular drinks from the chain into its existing menu. The company expressed that the CosMc’s experiment provided valuable insights into new flavors, technologies, and processes without disrupting the traditional McDonald’s experience for customers and employees.
Some of the specialty coffee drinks that were offered at CosMc’s included a churro frappe and an iced vanilla matcha latte. Despite expanding to five locations across Illinois and Texas, all CosMc’s stores will be shutting down.

As McDonald’s moves forward with integrating some of the CosMc’s offerings into its main menu, customers can expect to see new and innovative drink options available at their local McDonald’s restaurants.
