Messi Joins Another Trump-Orbiting Soccer Star In Milestone Club
On March 19, Lionel Messi achieved a remarkable milestone by scoring his 900th career goal, making him only the second player in elite men’s football to reach this feat after Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 38-year-old Argentine legend reached this milestone with a left-footed strike during Inter Miami’s 1-1 draw with Nashville SC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup.
It took Messi 21 years to reach this milestone, starting from his first senior goal for Barcelona at the age of 17 in 2005.
Inter Miami manager Javier Mascherano described Messi’s goal tally as “insane,” emphasizing the uniqueness of Messi’s talent.
Having won the prestigious Ballon d’Or eight times, Messi achieved the 900-goal mark in his 1,142nd appearance for club and country, surpassing Ronaldo’s record by nearly 100 games.
Ronaldo, who currently has 965 goals to his name, aims to reach the 1,000-mark before retiring from the game.

Throughout his career, Messi scored 672 goals for Barcelona, 32 for Paris St-Germain, 81 for Inter Miami, and 115 for Argentina, where he won the World Cup in 2022.
Messi’s teammates have relied on his brilliance in crucial moments, with 175 of his goals coming in knockout matches, including 35 in finals.
His 129 goals in the Champions League place him second only to Ronaldo’s 140 goals in the competition.
Despite Messi’s milestone goal, Inter Miami faced disappointment in the CONCACAF Champions Cup as they were eliminated on away goals after a 0-0 draw in the first leg.
