Mets’ Juan Soto, Francisco Lindor must find better unity
The Yankees made a bold decision to let Juan Soto go, and it may end up being a blessing in disguise for the team. While Soto is undeniably a great hitter, his hefty $750 million price tag would have limited the team’s ability to address other needs, such as adding players like Max Fried and Cody Bellinger. The 2024 World Series run with Soto was impressive, but the team that lost in the division series last season was arguably more well-rounded and better overall.
Similarly, the Mets faced a tough offseason with the departure of key players like Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo, Edwin Díaz, and Jeff McNeil. While it was painful for fans to see this core group break up, the decision was necessary to prevent the team from aging beyond their prime simultaneously. The Mets needed to make tough choices in order to set themselves up for success in the short and long term.
Both the Yankees and Mets have had to make difficult decisions regarding their rosters, but these moves may ultimately prove to be beneficial for both teams. By prioritizing team balance and long-term success, both organizations have positioned themselves for future success on the field.
