Michigan woman wins $100K Powerball pot using ChatGPT-generated numbers
Michigan Woman Wins Big in Powerball Drawing with AI-Generated Numbers
Tammy Carvey, a 45-year-old woman from Michigan, recently struck gold in the September Powerball drawing, winning a whopping $100,000 after letting an AI chatbot pick her numbers.
According to Carvey, she decided to use ChatGPT to generate a set of lottery numbers for her, which ultimately led to her big win. “I asked ChatGPT for a set of Powerball numbers and those are the numbers I played,” she shared with the Michigan lottery officials after claiming her prize.

Carvey explained that she only plays Powerball when the jackpot reaches a significant amount, and with the pot soaring over $1 billion, she decided to try her luck. To her surprise, four of the numbers generated by the chatbot matched the white Powerballs, instantly winning her $50,000. Additionally, she had opted for a Power Play, which doubled her winnings to a total of $100,000.
It wasn’t until Carvey logged into her Michigan Lottery account that she realized the full extent of her win. Initially thinking she had won $50,000, she was ecstatic to discover the doubled amount. “My husband and I were in total disbelief,” she shared.
Carvey plans to use her winnings to pay off the remainder of her home and save the rest for the future. Despite using AI to pick her numbers, the Michigan Lottery emphasized that the results were still purely based on luck and randomness.
Carvey isn’t the only one to strike gold with ChatGPT-generated numbers. Virginia resident Carrie Edwards also won big by matching five Powerball numbers selected by the AI, turning her $50,000 prize into $150,000 with the Power Play option.
The September Powerball drawing, which had a jackpot of $1.787 billion, was ultimately split by two lucky winners who matched the numbers 11, 23, 44, 61, 62, and the red Powerball 17.
