Missouri Powerball winner says historic $893M win won’t change his lifestyle: ‘I’m a homebody’

The recent winner of Missouri’s largest lottery jackpot has described his newfound fortune as the “best problem” he’s ever had in his life. The Missouri Lottery officially confirmed the winner of the $1.787 billion Powerball jackpot, who purchased the lucky ticket at a QuikTrip in St. Louis for the historic Sept. 6 drawing. Despite the life-changing amount of money, the winner admitted that the reality of being a multi-millionaire still hasn’t fully sunk in.

The anonymous winner shared that he was doing laundry the night before claiming his prize, highlighting the surreal nature of his new millionaire status. He also mentioned that the jackpot had caused him some sleepless nights, but ultimately, he sees it as the best problem he’s ever faced.

Looking ahead, the winner revealed that he and his wife plan to focus on themselves for the first year. He emphasized the importance of using the money to ease his wife’s workload and create more quality time together. While he enjoys a modest and homebody lifestyle, he joked that his wife might have other plans for their newfound wealth, possibly involving trips out of town.

Although he must split the record-breaking jackpot with another winner in Texas, his share of $893.5 million still secures him the largest lottery prize ever won in Missouri. The winner has opted for the one-time payment option of approximately $410.3 million.

The odds of winning a Powerball prize are 1 in 24.9 million, with the odds of hitting the jackpot at 1 in 292.2 million. The Missouri Lottery Executive Director, Lester Elder, celebrated the record-setting win, noting that it surpasses the previous jackpot record of $293.7 million from a 2012 Powerball drawing.

Including this latest Powerball win, there have been four jackpot winners in 2025. The most recent was a $204.5 million prize claimed in California. Other significant jackpots in recent years include a $2.04 billion win in California, a $1.765 billion prize split among winners in California, Florida, and Tennessee, and a $1.586 billion jackpot shared by three states.

The top 10 Powerball jackpots also include wins in Michigan, Wisconsin, Massachusetts, Washington, and Maryland. The recent winner from Missouri now joins the ranks of these fortunate individuals who have struck it big in the Powerball lottery.
