Mom gunned down after arriving at wrong home for cleaning job was shot in the head through the door: cops

The tragic death of Maria Florinda Ríos Pérez, a mother of four, has left her family and community in shock. Pérez was fatally shot in the head after arriving at the wrong address for a cleaning job in Indianapolis, Indiana. The heartbreaking incident occurred when Pérez attempted to enter a home using keys provided for the cleaning job, but she mistakenly went to the wrong house.

According to officials, the fatal gunshot that took Pérez’s life came from inside the home, with the bullet passing through the front door. The homeowner, who remains unidentified, fired the shot without opening the door, leading to Pérez being struck in the head. Pérez’s husband, Mauricio Velazquez, witnessed the horrific event and expressed his outrage at the senseless act of violence, referring to the shooter as “an animal” and demanding justice for his wife.

Velazquez, who now finds himself as the sole caretaker of their children, condemned the shooter for taking away Pérez’s life and leaving their family devastated. The couple, who ran a cleaning business together, had double-checked the address to ensure they were at the right location before the tragic shooting occurred. As Pérez attempted to use the keys to enter the home, a single bullet pierced through the door, fatally wounding her in front of her husband.

Despite a 911 call reporting a home invasion at the address, it was soon determined that Pérez and Velazquez were not attempting to break into the house. Pérez was pronounced dead at the scene, with the Boone County Coroner’s Office confirming that she died from a gunshot wound to the head. As of now, the shooter has not been arrested, and the case is still under investigation by Whitestown police.

The incident has raised questions about Indiana’s “stand your ground” laws, which allow homeowners to use deadly force to protect themselves and their property. The Boone County Prosecutor’s Office is considering the case as a homicide and will provide updates on potential charges in the coming week. The tragic death of Maria Florinda Ríos Pérez has left her family, friends, and community grappling with the senseless loss of a beloved mother and businesswoman.
