Mom of 7 Children Killed in Arizona Neighborhood: Husband

Detectives in Arizona are currently investigating the tragic killing of a 32-year-old mother of seven children, Maria Lewis, who was fatally shot in her Mesa neighborhood. The incident occurred when Lewis left her home to go on a walk around 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 28, and never returned, according to her husband, Albert Mendivil. Mendivil shared that she was shot while outside a neighbor’s home, leaving him and their children devastated.

The Mesa Police Department confirmed that officers responded to a local home on the early morning of February 28 after receiving a call requesting a welfare check. Upon arrival, they found Lewis with a gunshot wound, and she was later pronounced deceased at the scene. As of now, a potential suspect has not been named, but detectives are actively working on the investigation to bring justice to the family.

Lewis was described as an amazing woman with a bright personality and a beautiful smile by her husband. Her family mentioned that she was killed by her neighbor, and the medical examiner has classified her death as a homicide. The neighbor who allegedly shot Lewis is reported to be an employee of the Arizona Attorney General’s Office and has been placed on administrative leave pending the investigation.

The community has been deeply affected by the tragic loss, with neighbors expressing their sympathy and support for Lewis’ family. A GoFundMe page has been set up to assist with supporting her children and covering legal fees related to the case. The Mesa neighborhood where the incident took place is located about 20 miles southeast of Phoenix.

As the investigation continues, details surrounding the motive and circumstances of Lewis’ death remain unclear. The priority now is to ensure that justice is served and that her family receives the support they need during this difficult time.
