Mom remembers 9-year-old son who died in Kentucky floodwaters
The devastating floods that swept through Kentucky recently claimed the life of 9-year-old Gabriel Andrews, leaving his family and community in mourning. Gabriel was tragically swept away by floodwaters on his way to the school bus stop in Frankfort, a town severely affected by the historic storms that ravaged the region.
Described as a young boy who loved basketball and football, Gabriel was known for his beautiful smile and his ability to connect with everyone he met. His mother, Racheal Andrews, expressed her gratitude for the outpouring of love and support from the community during this difficult time.
The four days of relentless storms led to catastrophic flooding and destructive tornadoes across several states, resulting in the loss of 23 lives. Kentucky, Tennessee, Missouri, Georgia, Arkansas, Mississippi, and Indiana were all affected by the severe weather conditions.
Franklin County, Kentucky, where Gabriel lived, bore the brunt of the heavy rainfall, with Racheal Andrews expressing her devastation that in-person school was not canceled on the day of the tragedy. She firmly believes that the decision to keep schools open was a mistake that should never have happened.
The Franklin County School District, currently on spring break, has been silent on the matter. However, superintendent Mark Kopp released a statement expressing deep sorrow over Gabriel’s passing. He emphasized the sense of community within the school district and extended support to students, faculty, and staff who may be struggling to cope with the loss.
As the community grieves the loss of young Gabriel Andrews, they are reminded of the resilience and unity that can emerge in the face of tragedy. The heroic efforts of first responders and the unwavering support from neighbors and friends serve as a beacon of hope during this dark time.
