Moped-riding teen muggers rob youths in daylight NYC crimes
A recent string of terrifying broad-daylight muggings involving a group of moped-riding teen criminals has shaken the borough of Brooklyn. According to the police, the young thugs used a machete and their fists to rob other youths in various neighborhoods across the borough.
The first incident occurred on February 10th at 17th Avenue and 65th Street in Bensonhurst. Two perpetrators, one brandishing a machete, approached a 19-year-old victim and forcibly took his motorized scooter. The brazenness of the attack was evident as one of the assailants reportedly grinned during the robbery.
In another incident on February 13th at Ridge Boulevard and 86th Street in Bay Ridge, four suspects targeted a 16-year-old boy, demanding his jacket. In their attempt to steal the jacket, they tore part of it off before making their escape on their scooters.
The youngest victims in these crimes were two 13-year-olds who were accosted by five members of the criminal group in Brighton Beach on February 16th. One of the teenagers was punched in the face when he refused to hand over his jacket. The perpetrators then flashed a knife before stealing both jackets and fleeing the scene.
On February 21st at Ocean Avenue and Oriental Boulevard in Manhattan Beach, four criminals targeted two boys, aged 14 and 16. One of the perpetrators pushed the older victim off his e-bike and snatched a Nike backpack from the younger victim before speeding away.
The NYPD has released photos of two of the suspects involved in the final heist, one of whom is seen grinning in the image. All of the suspects are believed to be between the ages of 16 and 18.
Authorities are urging anyone with information about these crimes to come forward by contacting the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or 1-888-57-PISTA (74782) for Spanish speakers. Tips can also be submitted online at the Crime Stoppers website or via the @NYPDTips app.
