Morbido, Screen Captial Unveil LatAm Genre Streaming Hub, Umbra

Screen Capital, a Chilean investment firm, has recently made a significant move in the entertainment industry by acquiring Versatile Communications Inc. The purpose behind this acquisition is to launch the region’s first multi-platform hub dedicated entirely to horror and fantasy content. With an initial investment of $2.5 million from Screen Capital’s Screen II Fund, this venture aims to pioneer specialized genre content with global ambitions.
At the forefront of this new endeavor is industry veteran Eduardo Caso, the mastermind behind the popular Mórbido TV channel. Caso expressed his excitement about the project, stating that the fantasy and horror genre is one of the most diverse and has a highly loyal audience worldwide. He believes that there is a strong demand for this type of content in Latin America, yet production and distribution remain limited. This gap presents a significant opportunity for regional development in the genre, especially with the support of Screen Capital’s investors.
The centerpiece of this new venture is Umbra, a horror and fantasy content ecosystem that will include a FAST channel, AVOD, SVOD, and the linear Mórbido TV channel. Subscribers will have access to a wide range of content, including classic films, original productions, series, podcasts, audiobooks, and experimental formats. The expansion of Mórbido TV Entertainment SpA, now headquartered in Chile, will oversee global operations focused on talent development, project acquisition, and regional distribution.
Screen Capital’s partner, Edgar Spielmann, expressed the company’s excitement about entering a market with high engagement among regional audiences. The numbers in the horror and fantasy genre are surprising, making it one of the most successful types of specialized content in the region. Screen Capital, known for backing ventures that merge technology and entertainment, sees this acquisition as a strategic move to explore innovative intersections.
Mórbido’s market positioning will be further strengthened through partnerships with Grupo Mórbido, Mantícora Distribución, and the Fantastic Pavilion of the Marché du Film at the Cannes Film Festival. These alliances will contribute to an exclusive and continuously refreshed content pipeline. The initiative targets adults aged 25–44 from upper-middle-class backgrounds, a demographic known for their long-term loyalty to horror and fantasy content across various formats.
With this investment, Screen Capital and Mórbido TV aim to establish Umbra as Latin America’s premier destination for horror and fantasy content. The goal is to set new standards in genre content distribution and creative development, solidifying the brand as a leader in the industry.
