Most Americans say country is on the wrong track, blame Trump for inflation, disapprove of the president and say he is going too far to expand power of presidency

Two-thirds of Americans believe that the country is currently heading in the wrong direction, according to a recent ABC News/Washington Post/Ipsos poll. This sentiment is shared by a majority of Americans, who are feeling increasingly anxious and dissatisfied with the state of the nation. The poll, conducted using Ipsos’ KnowledgePanel, found that just under a third of Americans feel that the country is moving in the right direction, indicating a widespread sense of discontent among the population.

The survey also revealed that a slim majority of Americans believe that the economy has worsened since President Donald Trump took office. Majorities of Americans across various demographics, including Democrats, independents, and individuals from different racial and ethnic backgrounds, expressed concerns about the direction of the country. The government shutdown was also a source of worry for a majority of Americans.

While a significant percentage of Americans feel that the country is on the wrong track, there has been a slight decrease in this sentiment compared to the previous year. Despite this, the overall mood remains negative, with a majority of Americans expressing dissatisfaction with the current state of affairs.

President Trump’s handling of various issues, including inflation, tariffs, and the economy, received low approval ratings from the majority of Americans. Additionally, a significant number of Americans believe that Trump is overreaching in trying to expand the power of the presidency.

Concerns about the upcoming midterm elections were also highlighted in the poll, with negative ratings for the president and the economy potentially impacting the outcome for the president’s party. The economy, in particular, was a point of contention, with a slim majority of Americans believing that it has worsened under Trump’s leadership.

Overall, the poll painted a picture of a country grappling with economic uncertainty, political polarization, and dissatisfaction with the current administration. As the nation looks ahead to the future, these findings may serve as a barometer for the upcoming political landscape and the challenges that lie ahead.
