New Showrunner Anna Ouyang Moench Takes the Helm for “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” Season 2

After the departure of co-creator Francesca Sloane, Anna Ouyang Moench has been announced as the new showrunner for the highly anticipated second season of the Amazon Prime Video series “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Production on Season 2 was initially delayed but is now back on track with Mark Eydelshteyn and Sophie Thatcher set to star.

Moench brings a wealth of experience to the table, having worked on acclaimed shows like Apple TV’s “Severance” and Netflix’s upcoming “Beef.” Her expertise in balancing character-driven drama, sharp humor, and emotional depth has garnered praise from industry insiders.

Amazon MGM Studios’ Peter Friedlander expressed his excitement about Moench’s involvement, stating, “Her work on ‘Beef’ and ‘Severance’ speaks for itself, and we’re thrilled to have her at the helm of ‘Mr. and Mrs. Smith’ Season Two as she builds on the series’ compelling world and pushes it into exciting new territory for our global Prime Video customers.”

“Moench is repped by WME, Heroes & Villains, and Jackoway Austen,” the announcement added.

Originally co-created by Francesca Sloane and Donald Glover, “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” Season 1 garnered critical acclaim and received 16 Emmy nominations. The series, a reimagining of the 2005 film starring Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, follows the story of two strangers turned spies embarking on a high-risk mission while navigating the complexities of their arranged marriage.

Glover and Sloane remain attached as executive producers for Season 2, alongside a talented team of producers. The series is co-produced by New Regency and Amazon MGM Studios.
