MTA worker punched trying to break up platform fight near scene of Brooklyn slaying
A recent incident at the Jay Street subway station in Brooklyn has left many shaken, as an MTA track worker was punched in the face while trying to break up an argument. The worker, Michael Grosso, 59, was on duty in the early hours of the morning when he witnessed a man arguing with a passenger on the platform. Without hesitation, Grosso intervened, only to become the target of the suspect’s aggression.
The suspect, described as a black male in his 40s dressed in all black, turned on Grosso and delivered a forceful punch to his left side of the face before fleeing the scene. Despite the shocking attack, Grosso declined medical attention at the station.
This incident occurred just days after a tragic event at the same location, where a security guard named Nicola Tanzi was brutally beaten and stomped to death by David Mazariegos, 25. Mazariegos was later apprehended in Times Square wielding a samurai sword. The motive behind the attack was revealed to be Mazariegos’ displeasure with the way Tanzi looked at him.
The proximity of these two violent events has heightened concerns about safety at the Jay Street station. The Transport Workers Union, representing MTA workers, has yet to comment on the recent attack on Grosso.
As investigations continue and authorities search for the suspect in Grosso’s assault, the community remains on edge, grappling with the unsettling reality of violence in their midst. The incidents serve as a stark reminder of the risks faced by those working in public transportation and the importance of vigilance in ensuring the safety of both passengers and workers.
