Mugshots of Capitol Hill intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym murder suspects revealed as manhunt continues for third suspect

Police in Washington, DC, have recently released mugshots of two 17-year-olds who are accused of the June shooting death of Capitol Hill intern Eric Tarpinian-Jachym. The victim, a 21-year-old University of Massachusetts Amherst student who was interning for Rep. Ron Estes, R-Kan., was fatally shot on June 30, not far from the White House.

The suspects, Kelvin Thomas Jr. from Southeast DC and Jailen Lucas from Northwest DC, have been arrested and charged as adults with premeditated first-degree murder while armed. Authorities are also on the lookout for Naqwan Antonio Lucas, an 18-year-old from Granby, Massachusetts, who is wanted on a warrant for premeditated first-degree murder while armed in connection with the shooting.

During the attack, the suspects also injured a woman and a 16-year-old boy. The House held a moment of silence for Tarpinian-Jachym in July, with Rep. Estes describing him as a dedicated and kind person who loved the country.

The Attorney General, Pam Bondi, stated that if convicted, the suspects will face severe justice. She expressed hope that this would provide some solace to Tarpinian-Jachym’s family. It is currently unclear if Naqwan Lucas and Jailen Lucas are related, and officials have not confirmed whether Naqwan Lucas has a previous criminal record.

A reward of $25,000 is being offered by the MPD for information leading to a DC homicide conviction. In this case, the FBI’s Washington Field Office has added $15,000, and the US Marshals Service has added $10,000, bringing the total reward for information on Naqwan Lucas to $50,000.

Authorities are urging anyone with information on Naqwan Lucas to contact the police at 202-727-9099 or text tips to 50411, advising not to approach him. The investigation is ongoing, and anyone with relevant information is encouraged to come forward.
