Multiple deputies shot while serving warrants near Virginia, North Carolina border
Multiple deputies were shot while serving warrants and a protective order at a home in rural Pittsylvania County, Virginia. The incident, which occurred on Wednesday, was confirmed by Rep. John McGuire, R-Va., on social media.
“My thoughts and prayers are with the deputies who were shot in Pittsylvania County, as well as their families,” McGuire expressed in a post on X. “We are closely following the situation and keeping everyone affected in our hearts during this difficult time.”
According to Pennsylvania County Sheriff Mike Taylor, officers were met with gunfire when they approached the home and called for backup. Two deputies were hit by shrapnel, while another was taken to the emergency department as a precaution but has since been released.
Following the shooting, a standoff took place before the suspect, identified as James Andru Lehnerd, surrendered and came out of the house on his own. Lehnerd was subsequently taken into custody and is currently awaiting charges.
The incident led to a significant police presence in Gretna, located near the border between North Carolina and Virginia. Despite reaching out to the Pittsylvania Sheriff’s Office for additional information, Fox News Digital has not received a response as of yet.
The situation remains under investigation, and the authorities are working to ensure the safety and well-being of all involved in this tragic event. Our thoughts are with the injured deputies and their families during this challenging time.
