The Bronx community was left in shock after the brutal stabbing of 14-year-old Angel Mendoza in Williamsbridge Oval Playground. The incident, which occurred late Tuesday night, was captured on cellphone video and revealed a horrifying attack by a gang of teens on the innocent victim.
According to police sources and prosecutors, Mendoza was mistakenly targeted by the group as part of a revenge plan for a previous fight that he was not involved in. The video footage shows the gang assaulting him, pistol-whipping him in the face, and then repeatedly stabbing and kicking him.
It is believed that Mendoza, who often visited the park, was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. He was friends with two teens who had a confrontation with the gang earlier, leading to the tragic events that unfolded that night.
Despite not being involved in the initial altercation, Mendoza became the victim of a senseless act of violence. The gang members, identified as Andrew Ansah, Jordan Williams, and two unnamed minors, have been arrested and charged with murder, manslaughter, gang assault, and possession of a weapon.
When police arrived at the scene, they found Mendoza clinging to life and another 17-year-old boy with stab wounds. Mendoza was rushed to Jacobi Medical Center but tragically succumbed to his injuries. The other victim is in stable condition at Montefiore Medical Center.
The community has been left devastated by the loss of the young teenager, who was described as a regular at the park where he enjoyed playing basketball. His family, who live just blocks away from the playground, are struggling to come to terms with the senseless act of violence that took his life.
