Nancy Mace gubernatorial run rumors reach fever pitch with apparent slip-up
Firebrand Rep. Nancy Mace seems to have accidentally let the cat out of the bag regarding her upcoming gubernatorial campaign launch next week. While promoting her series of town halls in South Carolina, Mace’s team mistakenly tagged the event as being hosted by “Nancy Mace for Governor,” hinting at her potential candidacy.
The slip-up quickly gained traction on social media, sparking speculation about Mace’s intentions. Despite being pressed for confirmation, a spokesperson for Mace remained coy, simply stating, “Will confirm on Monday.”
Mace, who was elected to the House in 2020, has been dropping hints about her plans to enter the race to succeed term-limited Gov. Henry McMaster. She has declared her support for “America First governors” and positioned herself as a fighter for South Carolina.
The congresswoman is set to make a “special announcement” next Monday at The Citadel, where she graduated in 1999 as the first woman to complete the Corps of Cadets program. Known for her outspoken nature, Mace has made a name for herself as a culture warrior in Congress, advocating for conservative values and pushing back against progressive policies.
In recent months, Mace has been embroiled in controversies, from challenging transgender bathroom policies to engaging in heated altercations with constituents. Despite these incidents, sparse polling data has positioned her as the frontrunner in the South Carolina gubernatorial race.
If Mace officially announces her candidacy, she will face stiff competition from other Republican contenders, including Rep. Ralph Norman, state Sen. Josh Kimbrell, Lt. Gov. Pamela Evette, and South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson. Mace has also been embroiled in a defamation lawsuit filed by Wilson over sexual abuse allegations she made during a House floor speech.
As Mace gears up for her potential gubernatorial bid, her town hall tour across South Carolina is expected to garner significant attention and support from conservative voters. With her reputation as a fierce advocate for her constituents and a vocal critic of liberal policies, Mace is poised to make a strong impact in the upcoming race for governor.
