Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew Potential Release Date, Cast, Plot and News

The world of Narnia is set to return to the big screen, this time under the direction of Greta Gerwig. Known for her success with Barbie in 2023, Gerwig is taking on the iconic fantasy series by C. S. Lewis for Netflix. The streaming giant signed a deal with the C.S. Lewis Company in 2018 to bring the beloved novels to life on screen.

After the success of Frankenstein and Knives Out, Netflix is betting big on The Chronicles of Narnia as its next major film project. Following the footsteps of Enola Holmes, this new movie series is aimed at capturing the hearts of younger viewers.

The Chronicles of Narnia consists of seven novels, with some already adapted for the screen in the past. Disney produced films based on the first three volumes, but subsequent adaptations were not as successful. Now, Gerwig is set to breathe new life into the series with her adaptation of The Magician’s Nephew, a prequel to the main story that has never been brought to the screen before.

The Magician’s Nephew is scheduled for a theatrical release on Thanksgiving Day, 26 November 2026, before making its way to Netflix. The film will introduce audiences to the world of Narnia through the adventures of two children, Digory Kirke and Polly Plummer, as they discover magical portals to alternate universes.

While casting details have not been officially confirmed, rumors suggest that David McKenna, Beatrice Campbell, Emma Mackey, Carey Mulligan, Daniel Craig, and Meryl Streep are all set to star in the film. McKenna and Campbell are rumored to play the lead roles of Digory and Polly, while Mackey is said to portray the villainous Jadis. Mulligan is expected to play Digory’s mother, with Craig taking on the role of Uncle Andrew, and Streep lending her voice to the majestic lion, Aslan.

As production moves forward, fans can expect more updates on the casting and filming of The Chronicles of Narnia. With Gerwig at the helm, this new adaptation is sure to bring a fresh perspective to the beloved fantasy series.
