Netflix’s Boots Called ‘Woke Garbage’ by Pentagon for Gay Military Show

The Pentagon at President Donald Trump’s administration has expressed strong disapproval of Netflix’s new series “Boots,” a military drama that follows the story of a closeted gay teen recruit. According to Pentagon Press Secretary Kingsley Wilson, the show has been labeled as “woke garbage” in a statement obtained by Entertainment Weekly.

Wilson emphasized that under President Trump and Secretary Pete Hegseth, the U.S. military is focused on restoring the warrior ethos and maintaining elite, uniform, and sex-neutral standards. The statement highlighted that the military will not compromise its standards to cater to any ideological agenda, unlike Netflix, which is accused of consistently producing and promoting woke content to its audience and children.

“Boots” is based on Greg Cope White’s memoir “The Pink Marine” and was released on Netflix on Oct. 9. The series follows the story of Cameron Cope, played by Miles Heizer, who joins the military in the 1990s, four years before the implementation of President Bill Clinton’s Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell policy. The show features several openly gay actors, including Angus O’Brien and Max Parker.

In an interview with Variety, Heizer expressed surprise at how relevant the show’s message is to the current military landscape. He noted the significance of having a predominantly queer team behind the scenes, highlighting the rarity of such representation in the industry.

Netflix has yet to respond to the Pentagon’s statement, and it remains to be seen how the controversy surrounding “Boots” will unfold. The show’s exploration of LGBTQ+ themes in a military setting has sparked discussions about representation and inclusivity in entertainment.

As the debate continues, “Boots” stands as a poignant reminder of the challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals in the armed forces and the importance of diverse storytelling in the media landscape.
