Nets get Michael Porter Jr. from Nuggets for Cam Johnson in trade

The long-anticipated trade involving Cam Johnson has finally come to fruition as he was traded to the Nuggets in exchange for Michael Porter Jr. and a first-round pick in 2032. This move gives Denver an additional scoring threat in Johnson, known for his sharpshooting from beyond the arc, to complement star player Nikola Jokic as they aim to make another deep playoff run after falling short in the second round.

Johnson originally came to Brooklyn as part of the Kevin Durant trade back in 2023. As the Nets transitioned into a rebuilding phase, Johnson emerged as one of the team’s most reliable and established players.

The trade talks surrounding Johnson had been circulating for the majority of the season leading up to the deadline, and it finally materialized with this deal.

Last season, Johnson stepped up as the primary scorer for the Nets when Cam Thomas was sidelined with injuries, showcasing his ability to contribute offensively by averaging a career-high 18.8 points per game.

On the other side of the trade, Michael Porter Jr., a 27-year-old forward and former first-round pick from the 2018 NBA Draft, brings his scoring prowess and versatility to the Nets. Porter Jr. averaged 18.2 points and 7.0 rebounds per game for the Nuggets last season, playing a key role in their championship-winning campaign in 2023.

The acquisition of Porter Jr. adds depth and talent to the Nets roster, providing them with another dynamic offensive weapon to complement their existing core of players. This trade sets the stage for an exciting new chapter for both Johnson and Porter Jr. as they embark on the next phase of their careers with their respective teams.
