Nevada state senator Edgar Flores busted for suspected DUI after he’s caught sleeping at Vegas stoplight

Nevada Senator Arrested for DUI After Falling Asleep at Traffic Light

A Nevada senator found himself in hot water after being arrested on suspicion of DUI when he was caught slumped over and apparently passed out in the driver’s seat of his car at a traffic light.

Senator Edgar Flores (D-NV) was spotted snoozing at a red light in Northeast Las Vegas in the early hours of Sept. 12 by a Las Vegas Metro Police officer, according to body camera footage.

Officers discovered Flores, unresponsive, with his keys in the ignition of his Jeep Wrangler, in drive, and his foot on the brake. It wasn’t until one of the officers knocked on his window that he was startled awake, despite multiple attempts to rouse him.

Disoriented, Flores was instructed to put his car in park and step out. As officers questioned him, the 39-year-old senator struggled to recall his address, claiming he had been playing soccer at Sunset Park and was on his way home in northern Las Vegas.

When asked about his condition, Flores admitted to having “just a drink,” specifically one beer around midnight. However, after failing a field sobriety test, he was placed under arrest.

Flores, who represents northeastern Clark County, was later booked into the Clark County Detention Center on a misdemeanor DUI charge. Despite not being formally charged, he was released without bail after a blood draw.

In response to the incident, Flores maintained that he was tired but not impaired while driving. His team released a statement explaining that he cooperated with authorities, agreeing to both a breathalyzer and blood test, which reportedly came back clean.

However, LVMP claimed Flores refused a preliminary breath test at the scene, and it will take around 90 days for his toxicology report to be processed. A status hearing on the filing of a criminal complaint against the senator is scheduled for Jan. 12.

While Flores’ campaign respects the officers’ efforts to ensure public safety, they are reviewing whether his rights and privacy were properly respected during the arrest. The senator’s supporters stand by him, maintaining his innocence in the matter.
