New York tourist stabbed while changing baby’s diaper in Macy’s restroom, suspect charged: Police
A shocking incident unfolded on Thursday afternoon at the Macy’s flagship store in New York City, resulting in the arrest of a woman for allegedly stabbing a tourist. The suspect, identified as Kerri Aherne, a 43-year-old from Tewksbury, Massachusetts, reportedly attacked the victim multiple times while she was changing her infant daughter’s diaper in a restroom on the seventh floor of Macy’s Herald Square location.
The tourist, who was visiting Manhattan from California, was stabbed in the back and arm by Aherne before the victim’s husband intervened, disarming the suspect and holding her until the authorities arrived. Fortunately, the baby was unharmed in the incident, and the victim was promptly taken to Bellevue Hospital in stable condition.
In a surprising turn of events, it was revealed that both the victim and her husband work for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Aherne now faces serious charges, including two counts of assault, attempted murder, criminal possession of a weapon, and endangering the welfare of a child. Following her court appearance, she was remanded without bail.
Further investigations into the matter uncovered Aherne’s troubled past, as she had previously been arrested in Massachusetts for threatening to kill Senator Elizabeth Warren. The woman admitted to struggling with psychiatric issues and having a history of hospitalization for mental health concerns.
Macy’s expressed deep sorrow over the incident, emphasizing the importance of customer and employee safety as their top priority. They deferred any additional inquiries to the local authorities as the investigation into the unprovoked attack continues.
The disturbing event serves as a reminder of the unpredictable nature of such incidents and underscores the need for vigilance and security measures in public spaces. As the case unfolds, authorities are working diligently to piece together the events leading up to the violent altercation at one of New York City’s most iconic retail destinations.
