Newark Airport Suffers Another Radar Outage

A radar outage at an air traffic control facility in Newark Liberty International Airport caused a brief disruption on Friday morning. This incident is the latest in a series of technological disruptions at one of the nation’s busiest airports.
The Federal Aviation Administration reported that the outage, affecting communications and radar displays at the Philadelphia facility, occurred just before 4 a.m. and lasted approximately 90 seconds.
During the outage, an air traffic controller informed the pilot of FedEx flight 1989 about the situation. The controller said, “FedEx 1989, I’m going to hand you off here, our scopes just went black again. If you care about this, contact your airline and try to get some pressure for them to fix this stuff.”
In response, the pilot expressed understanding, saying, “Sorry to hear about that.”
ABC News had previously reported on the outage. Another outage the previous week, on a Monday afternoon, disrupted travel at the airport, leading to controllers being unable to communicate with pilots and prevent potential collisions. This incident resulted in low staffing levels at the facility, causing widespread flight delays and cancellations.
This story is still developing. Stay tuned for updates.
