Newark cop killer’s mom busted on gang, drug-peddling charges

The recent arrest of Rabiyah Sorey and her twin sister, Hadiyah Sorey, has shed light on the alleged criminal activities of the Double ii gang in Newark. Rabiyah, the mother of a 14-year-old boy charged with the murder of Detective Joseph Azcona, has been identified as the alleged ringleader of the Bloods-affiliated street gang.

According to court documents, Rabiyah and Hadiyah were among 26 individuals arrested by state authorities for their involvement in the gang. The gang is said to have operated an open-air drug market on North 9th Street, where they sold heroin, cocaine, and fentanyl. Rabiyah is facing felony charges including racketeering, conspiracy, assault, and drug and weapons charges.

Prior to their arrests, Hadiyah Sorey boasted to the media about the gang’s lucrative drug trade, claiming to make $4,000 a day selling drugs. She also made bold statements about her influence in Newark’s North Ward. Investigators allege that the gang used violence to maintain control over their territory, with some members serving as “creepers” who distributed drugs and carried out attacks on behalf of Rabiyah Sorey.

Authorities were able to link Rabiyah to multiple shootings between April 2023 and December through wiretaps and surveillance cameras. The gang reportedly operated a drug production facility at Sorey’s home in Elizabeth, where police recovered cash and drug paraphernalia during a raid.

New Jersey’s Attorney General, Matthew Platkin, issued a statement condemning the gang’s activities and emphasizing the impact of illegal drug trafficking on communities. He praised law enforcement efforts to dismantle criminal organizations like Double ii and protect residents from their harmful influence.

Despite the gravity of the charges against them, the Soreys have not issued any statements to the media. The case continues to unfold as authorities work to bring all those involved in the gang to justice.
