NFL wide receiver Rondale Moore found dead in Indiana

NFL wide receiver Rondale Moore tragically died of a suspected self-inflicted gunshot wound in his native Indiana at the age of 25. Moore, who had suffered season-ending knee injuries in each of the last two years, was a standout college player at Purdue and had shown promise in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals.

Moore’s body was found in the garage of a property in New Albany, where he was pronounced dead. The police chief Todd Bailey confirmed the death and stated that the investigation was ongoing. The Floyd County Coroner Matthew Tomlin also confirmed Moore’s passing and mentioned that an autopsy would be conducted.

After being traded to the Atlanta Falcons in 2024, Moore experienced a dislocated right knee during training camp and never got to play for them. He later signed with the Minnesota Vikings in 2025 but suffered a blown-out left knee while returning a punt in their first exhibition game, which led to another season on injured reserve. The Vikings expressed their condolences to Moore’s family and described him as a disciplined and resilient player.

The Cardinals, Moore’s former team, also expressed their devastation over his passing and extended their deepest condolences to his loved ones. Moore, who grew up in New Albany, was named a first-team All-American as a freshman at Purdue in 2018. His former college coach Jeff Brohm described him as a joy to coach and praised his work ethic and competitive spirit.

Drafted in the second round by the Cardinals in 2021, Moore had accumulated impressive stats over three seasons, including 1,201 receiving yards and three touchdowns, along with 249 rushing yards and one score. He was also known for his skills as a returner for kickoffs and punts. Former teammate J.J. Watt expressed disbelief over Moore’s untimely passing and highlighted his potential and the impact he had yet to make in the NFL.

The football community mourns the loss of Rondale Moore, a talented player whose life was cut short. His legacy will live on through the memories of those who knew and admired him.
