Nielsen Streaming Top 10: ‘Adolescence,’ ‘Wicked,’ ‘Severance’ Ratings

Netflix’s limited series “Adolescence” has taken the streaming world by storm, reaching the top of the Nielsen charts in its first full week of availability. According to Nielsen, the series garnered an impressive 1.44 billion minutes of viewing during the week of March 17 to March 23, marking a 59% increase from its debut week when it ranked at No. 9. The show resonated particularly well with adults aged 35-64, showing a 56% increase in viewership, as well as Hispanic viewers, who made up 26% of the audience.
On the film front, “Wicked” has proven to be a wicked success on streaming platforms. The blockbuster movie, which premiered on Peacock on March 21, made it onto Nielsen’s list of top 10 streaming programs for the week ending March 23, with 905 million minutes viewed despite only being available for three days that week. “Wicked” attracted a wide range of viewers, including kids aged 2-11 and adults aged 18-49.
Despite the success of “Wicked,” it was unable to surpass the popularity of “Moana 2,” which dominated the movie category with 1.13 billion minutes viewed for the week. “The Residence,” a new series from Netflix created by Shonda Rhimes, secured the second spot with 1.36 billion viewing minutes, with a significant portion of Black viewers making up 25% of the audience. Amazon Prime Video’s “Reacher” claimed the fourth spot with over a billion viewing minutes for the fifth consecutive week.
Prime Video also saw success with “The Wheel of Time” and “Invincible,” both of which made it to the top 10 list for original series for the second week in a row. Apple TV+’s “Severance” reached a new weekly high of 876 million minutes, with its Season 2 finale airing during the charting week. The show attracted the highest concentration of adult 18-49 viewers at 71%.
Other notable mentions include HBO Max’s “The White Lotus,” which hit a series high of 973 million minutes, and “The Pitt,” which made its debut on the originals top 10 list with 466 million minutes viewed. Library shows like “Grey’s Anatomy,” “Bluey,” and “Family Guy” continued to perform well, maintaining their spots in the overall top 10.
Overall, the streaming landscape continues to evolve with a mix of new releases and familiar favorites captivating audiences across various platforms.
