NJ teacher pleads guilty to sexually assaulting two teen students
A former New Jersey teacher, Julie Rizzitello, has admitted to sexually assaulting two of her teenage students, engaging in the illicit relationships over several years beginning in 2017. Rizzitello, who previously worked as an English teacher at Wall Township High School, pleaded guilty to two counts of second-degree sexual assault, as reported by the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office. Prosecutors are seeking a 10-year prison sentence and mandatory registration as a sex offender for her despicable actions that spanned across three different townships in New Jersey.
Wall Township Police Chief Sean O’Halloran expressed his dismay at the betrayal of trust exhibited by Rizzitello towards the victims and the school community at large. He commended the bravery of those who came forward and the diligent efforts of law enforcement in bringing the case to justice, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding young individuals from harm.
Rizzitello’s arrest last summer stemmed from her involvement in multiple sexual encounters with an 18-year-old student between April and June 2024, including engaging in sexual activity in the victim’s car. She also exchanged nude photos and explicit messages with the student, meeting up in various townships like Brick, Belmar, and Wall. Additionally, she faced allegations of engaging in sexual relations with another student on multiple occasions between 2017 and 2018.
The disgraced educator, who resigned shortly before her arrest, taught ninth-grade English and SAT prep classes at Wall High School. Hired by the Wall Township Public Schools in 2013, Rizzitello received an annual salary of $62,000, according to state pension records. Following her guilty plea, she faces potential lifetime parole supervision and may be prohibited from holding public office in the future. Rizzitello is scheduled to be sentenced on January 9, 2026.
The disturbing case underscores the importance of vigilance in protecting students from predatory behavior and upholding ethical standards in educational institutions. The legal repercussions faced by Rizzitello serve as a cautionary tale, emphasizing the severe consequences of exploiting positions of authority for personal gratification.
