Nneka Ogwumike moves into 6th place on WNBA’s all-time scoring list as Storm beat Valkyries 67-58
Nneka Ogwumike’s impressive performance led the Seattle Storm to a 67-58 victory over the Golden State Valkyries, with Ogwumike scoring 22 points to move into sixth place on the WNBA’s all-time scoring list. She surpassed Candice Dupree by one point, now trailing only Tamika Catchings, who scored 7,380 points in her career.
The Storm relied heavily on Ogwumike in the fourth quarter, where she scored 11 of her 22 points. Her crucial layup with 2:09 remaining and two clutch free throws at the 1:18 mark helped Seattle secure the win.
Erica Wheeler also made significant contributions, especially in the third quarter, with back-to-back 3-pointers and a running layup that gave the Storm a six-point lead. Wheeler’s three-point play with 2:32 left in the third extended Seattle’s lead to 45-37.
Although the Valkyries made a late push, cutting the deficit to 56-54, Ogwumike’s late-game heroics proved to be the difference maker.
In addition to Ogwumike’s stellar performance, Wheeler finished with 15 points, Skylar Diggins added 10 points, and Lexie Brown chipped in seven off the bench. For the Valkyries, Cecilia Zandalasini scored 12 points, while Janelle Salaun contributed 10 points.
Looking ahead, the Storm will face the Dallas Wings on Tuesday, while the Valkyries will host the Wings on July 25.
