‘No Wonder’ Stephen Colbert Got Canceled
Piers Morgan has recently shared his thoughts on the cancellation of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert.” In a tweet on Sunday, Morgan criticized late-night hosts for becoming “hyper-partisan activist hacks” for the Left, suggesting that Colbert’s departure was not surprising. He even shared a New York Post cover that humorously read, “No wonder he was canned, ‘The Left Show With Stephen Colbert.’”
“This is so damning,” Morgan wrote in his tweet. “Most of America’s biggest late-night hosts have become nothing more than hyper-partisan activist hacks for the Democrats – a party that’s rarely been more unpopular. No wonder Colbert got canned. More will follow.”
Morgan’s comments are not isolated, as former “Tonight Show” host Jay Leno also expressed similar sentiments. Leno highlighted how late-night hosts often alienate parts of their audience by aligning too closely with one political party. “I love political humor, don’t get me wrong. But it’s just what happens when people wind up cozying too much to one side or the other,” Leno stated in an interview.
The decision to cancel the entire “Late Show” franchise, including Colbert’s version, was announced on July 17. CBS attributed the move to a “financial decision,” but speculation has arisen regarding potential political motivations. Some believe that the cancellation could be an attempt to appease Donald Trump’s FCC in light of a pending merger between CBS’ parent company, Paramount, and Skydance.
Overall, the controversy surrounding Colbert’s cancellation has sparked discussions about the role of late-night hosts in today’s politically charged climate. As the landscape of late-night television continues to evolve, it remains to be seen how hosts will navigate the balance between humor and political commentary to engage a diverse audience.
