North Carolina dad Shaheem Snype caught on video attacking son’s alleged killer at Mecklenburg County Courthouse
The Mecklenburg County Courthouse in Charlotte was the scene of a dramatic incident when a grieving father, Shaheem Snype, attacked Marion McKnight, the man accused of killing his 16-year-old son, Jamariyae Dixon. The shocking altercation took place while McKnight was free on bond, sparking emotions to boil over for Snype.
Video footage captured the intense moment when Snype lunged at McKnight, delivering a series of punches and kicks before being subdued by a Taser-wielding officer. McKnight was subsequently taken to a hospital for treatment following the assault.
Although Snype was charged with misdemeanor assault inflicting serious injury, he was released on a $1,000 bond shortly after the incident. The family of the victim expressed their frustration over McKnight being out on bond, believing it was a decision that should not have been made.
Susan Sherrill, Dixon’s aunt, stated that Snype’s actions were a result of his grief and the need to confront McKnight for the pain he had caused. She emphasized that any father in his position would have reacted in a similar manner, given the tragic loss they had experienced.
The underlying cause of the confrontation dates back to a fatal shooting that claimed Dixon’s life in May 2025. McKnight was identified as the suspect in the case, leading to his arrest and subsequent release on bond in November of the same year. He has been under electronic monitoring at his mother’s residence since his release.
Prosecutors had sought to revoke McKnight’s bond, leading to his presence at the courthouse on the day of the attack. Lynnette Dixon, the mother of the victim, expressed a bittersweet moment of relief upon seeing the video of the incident, as it provided her with a brief sense of justice and closure in the wake of her son’s tragic death.
The events at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse serve as a somber reminder of the impact of violence on families and communities, highlighting the need for accountability and justice in cases of senseless acts of violence.
