North Carolina man Craig Mason arrested after shooting ding dong ditch teen

A North Carolina man has been arrested on felony charges after allegedly shooting a juvenile playing “ding-dong ditch” in his residential neighborhood. The incident took place in Statesville, North Carolina, on Saturday night, when deputies with the Iredell County Sheriff’s Office heard gunshots while conducting a traffic stop.

Authorities responded to the area of Absher Farm Loop and found a group of five juveniles in a nearby field, one of whom had been shot in the leg. The investigation revealed that the group was driving through the neighborhood when an unknown individual fired at their vehicle, hitting the juvenile in the leg.

Craig Steven Mason approached investigators and admitted to being the shooter. He claimed that he was awoken by loud noises and, upon seeing a vehicle with no headlights on, fired multiple rounds towards it. The vehicle was struck four times, with one round hitting the juvenile passenger in the leg.

It was later discovered that the juveniles were playing “ding-dong ditch” in the neighborhood, but they did not approach Mason’s home. Mason was arrested on charges of felony assault with a deadly weapon, felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury, and felony discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle causing serious bodily injury. He was held without bond pending an appearance before a district court judge.

The juvenile victim is still in the hospital receiving medical treatment for their injuries. The Iredell County Sheriff’s Office declined to comment further on the investigation. It is important to note that Fox News Digital was unable to locate an attorney representing Mason at this time.
