North Korea’s top diplomat meets with Putin on a visit to Russia
MOSCOW — North Korea’s foreign minister visited the Kremlin on Monday for discussions with Russian President Vladimir Putin, following a recent summit between the two countries’ leaders.
Putin and Kim Jong Un met in Beijing last month after attending a significant military parade in China to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.
During the meeting at the Kremlin, Putin expressed his warm regards to Kim through North Korean Foreign Minister Chon Son Hui, emphasizing the positive nature of their previous encounter.
Prior to the meeting with Putin, Choe held discussions with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, who praised North Korean troops for their assistance in the Kursk region following a surprise Ukrainian incursion.
Choe highlighted the progress in bilateral relations and reiterated North Korea’s unwavering support for Russia’s efforts to uphold state sovereignty, territorial integrity, and international justice.
South Korean assessments indicate that North Korea has deployed troops and provided military equipment to support Russia’s actions in Ukraine. Kim has also agreed to send military construction workers and deminers to assist in the Kursk region.
