Nothing Android 16 OS 4.0 Update Previewed
Nothing OS 4.0 Preview: New Features and Updates
British tech company Nothing has given us a glimpse of Nothing OS 4.0, the upcoming smartphone UI based on Android 16, showcasing some exciting new features.
The initial announcement of NOS 4.0 was made during the launch of the Nothing Phone (3) in early July, with a projected release window of “early autumn.” As the rollout date approaches, Nothing has provided more details on the enhancements coming to Nothing phones.
With a focus on delivering a more seamless and intuitive user experience, Nothing OS 4.0 promises a cleaner Quick Settings menu, a more responsive lock screen, and an always-on display. Users can also expect a range of redesigned lock screen clocks for added customization.
A new feature called Extra Dark Mode takes Nothing’s signature dark aesthetic to the next level. This enhanced mode offers increased contrast to save power, reduce eye strain, and provide a sleek look.
In addition, an AI Usage Dashboard will keep users informed about the AI algorithms running in the background, providing valuable insights not found on other devices like the Google Pixel 10 Pro.
Another new addition is the Pop-up View, allowing users to multitask with two floating apps simultaneously. By swiping up from the bottom edge to minimize an app and then pulling down to expand it, users can easily switch between apps.
Nothing has also promised improvements to the camera and gallery experience, with upgrades to the Camera app and smarter Gallery features. While specific details have not been disclosed, users can anticipate new controls and creative presets to enhance their photography experience.
According to Nothing, “NOS 4.0 will soon be available on Nothing smartphones.” While specific release dates and compatible models have not been confirmed, it is likely that the Nothing Phone (3) will be among the first devices to receive the update.
Nothing has announced the launch of its Open Beta testing program, allowing select members of the Nothing community to experience the Android 16-based UI before its official release.
In related news, Nothing has introduced its latest earphones, the Nothing Ear (3). These earphones feature a Super Mic technology that ensures clear call quality even in noisy environments. The design incorporates ergonomic elements and 100% anodized recycled aluminum on the case for a premium look and feel.
The Nothing Ear (3) earphones boast 12mm dynamic drivers, up to 45db of Adaptive Noise Cancellation, and support for Hi-Res LDAC audio at 24-bit. With a battery life of up to 10 hours of continuous playback, these earphones offer a high-quality audio experience at an affordable price of £119/$79, available for purchase on the Nothing website.
Stay tuned for more updates on Nothing OS 4.0 and the latest innovations from Nothing as they continue to push the boundaries of technology and design.
