Stan Kroenke Emerges as Largest Private Landowner in the U.S.

Stan Kroenke, the renowned rancher and billionaire owner of prominent sports teams such as the Los Angeles Rams and Denver Nuggets, has solidified his position as the largest private landowner in the United States. This title was bestowed upon him by The Land Report, a reputable source that meticulously tracks private land holdings.

Recently, in a groundbreaking move, Kroenke acquired a staggering 937,000 acres of noncontiguous land in New Mexico in December. This monumental purchase not only marked the largest single land acquisition in the U.S. since 2011 but also expanded his total land holdings to over 2.7 million acres spread across the American West and Canada.

In addition to his vast land portfolio, Kroenke also boasts ownership of approximately 60 million square feet of commercial space, which includes iconic sports venues in Inglewood, California, and Denver. His sports empire encompasses teams like the LA Rams, Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets, Colorado Mammoth, Colorado Rapids, and Arsenal’s men’s and women’s soccer teams in Britain. It’s worth noting that his wife, Ann Walton Kroenke, is an heiress to the Walmart fortune, further consolidating their financial prowess.

The latest addition to Kroenke’s land portfolio was the acquisition of Singleton Ranches, previously owned by the heirs of Henry Singleton, the founder of Teledyne. This significant purchase further solidifies Kroenke’s standing as a prominent figure in the realm of land ownership.

While Kroenke’s representatives remained tight-lipped about the specifics of the transaction, his track record speaks volumes. Notable acquisitions like the historic Waggoner Ranch in Texas, Broken O Ranch in Montana, and Winecup Gamble Ranch in Nevada underscore his commitment to expanding his land holdings.
