Number of missing in Texas floods drops from nearly 100 to 3 in hard-hit county
After enduring devastating floods earlier this month, officials in Kerr County, Texas, have made significant progress in locating individuals who were initially reported as missing. Initially, the number of people believed to be missing was nearly 100, but that number has now been reduced to just three individuals.
In a recent statement, county officials credited the extensive follow-up work conducted by state and local agencies for the decrease in the number of missing persons. Many individuals who were initially reported as missing have since been located and confirmed to be safe and accounted for.
The community of Kerrville has expressed deep gratitude for the more than 1,000 local, state, and federal authorities who have worked tirelessly in the aftermath of the catastrophic flood. Kerrville City Manager Dalton Rice commended the efforts of these dedicated individuals, which led to the reduction of the missing persons list from over 160 to just three.
While Kerr County has made significant progress in locating missing individuals, there are still three people reported as missing in Travis County and one person listed as missing in Burnet County. Despite these remaining cases, the overall number of missing persons in the region has significantly decreased.
The recent floods in Texas have had a devastating impact, with the death toll across the state reaching 134 as of earlier this week. Of those fatalities, 107 occurred in Kerr County, including 70 adults and 37 children.
The search and rescue efforts continue in the affected areas, with authorities working diligently to locate any remaining missing individuals.
